5 Minute Guide for Hazard Reporting Reward Program: Best Practice of CHINT Electric

Editor’s Note:

The Work Safety Committee of the State Council has requested all production and business operation entities to establish an Internal Program Rewarding the Reporting of Work Safety Hazards by the end of 2025. At the beginning of this year, the Shanghai Work Safety Committee compiled the booklet “A Collection of Best Practices for an Internal Program Rewarding the Reporting of Work Safety Hazards”.

To further promote these best practices, we selected several successful cases and created a series of concise, five-minute guides to help all entities create and deploy their own programs. Today’s story is from CHINT Electric .

CHINT Electric Share Holding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CHINT Electric") adopts the "Full Participation + Effective Incentives" approach to harness the proactive initiative of "People". It also leverages "Digital Empowerment + Joint Prevention and Control" to showcase the practical advantages of "Intelligence", thereby enhancing its hazard reporting and reward program in a scientific, systematic, and efficient manner.

Establishing a Reporting System for All Employees

Ensure full coverage of reporting entities. CHINT Electric's internal hazard reporting and reward program is open to all employees, including team leaders, technical staff, frontline workers, and even temporary and dispatched workers. This inclusive approach significantly expands the channels for risk discovery, effectively eliminating blind spots in hazard identification and management.

Establish diverse reporting channels. The company provides multiple methods for employees seeking to submit reports, such as reporting through CHINT's internal website and internal work app Lark, scanning QR codes, sending paper mail to suggestion boxes, sending email, or making phone calls. These methods accommodate the reporting habits and scenario needs of employees with different roles and management relationships. Employees can choose the most convenient method to report hazards based on their specific circumstances, effectively enhancing the timeliness and proactivity of hazard reporting.

Adopting a Rewarding Mechanism Combining Honors and Prizes

Focus on evaluating and reviewing the quality of hazard reports. A Hazard Report Review Committee has been established, led by the work safety management department and joined by relevant business departments. This committee conducts monthly reviews of submitted reports, filtering out invalid content while identifying good suggestions and solutions that effectively promote work safety. The reward decisions are announced across the company.

In accordance with established rules of the Measures of CHINT Electric for Rewarding Internal Hazard Reporting,  timely rewards are issued for each reported case. Based on the principle of “1 RMB for 1 point”, incentives are granted according to individual report scores. Employees who earn points will receive bonuses or equivalent prizes of equivalent value, which are typically distributed in the month following the rewarding announcements. By effectively managing each stage - from hazard reporting, case reviewing to taking corrective action and issuing rewards - CHINT Electric has established a complete closed-loop process for handling individual hazard cases, ensuring that all reported risks are addressed promptly and effectively.

In addition, CHINT Electric motivates frontline workshops to take safety management initiatives by establishing special allowances for dedicated safety management personnel, team safety incentive awards, and project incentive bonuses. Frontline employees who proactively obtain professional work safety qualifications can receive corresponding allowances. A dedicated safety incentive bonus pool has also been established for the safety management team, ensuring the effective implementation of the principle of "rewarding excellence and addressing underperformance."

Implementing Integrated Governance with Digital Empowerment and Joint Prevention and Control

Leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, IoT, and AI video, CHINT Electric has developed several dedicated system platforms, such as the "CHINT Safety Behavior Early Warning System Platform" and the "CHINT EHS Management Platform". By adopting scientific and intelligent methods, the company has achieved early detection, early warning, and rapid response to safety risks, which has significantly enhanced its capability to identify, prevent, and resolve potential hazards. This marks a shift in workplace safety management from static analysis to dynamic perception, from reactive response to preemptive prevention, and from isolated control to integrated joint defense, effectively addressing risks at their source and enhancing the company’s intrinsic safety level.
