Seasons’ Verses amid Hunan Landscape｜Dongting Lake
“Looking at the Dongting landscape from a distance, there are green snails on the silver plate.” “Where Yangtze River diverges, waters of Dongting Lake lie, expanding their vibrations to the azure cloudless sky.” These familiar poems depict Dongting Lake, the important birthplace of Hunan culture and the fertile land of fish and rice.
Dongting Lake, styled as “Yunmeng” anciently, is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, renowned as China's second largest freshwater lake. It is a typical seasonal freshwater lake, hence a migration passage area or a nestling site for birds in the autumn and winter seasons. The lake glitters like a bright pearl inlaid on the banks of the Yangtze River.
“遥望洞庭山水翠，白银盘里一青螺。”“洞庭西望楚江分，水尽南天不见云。”这些耳熟能详的诗词描绘的都是湖湘文化的重要发源地、著名的鱼米之乡——洞庭湖。
洞庭湖，古称“云梦”，位于长江中游，是中国第二大淡水湖。它是一个典型的季节性淡水湖泊，每到秋冬季节，这里都会成为候鸟迁徙的通道和停歇地。洞庭湖宛如一颗璀璨的明珠，镶嵌在长江之畔，熠熠生辉。
