The Dream Within the Painting (Hua Zhong You), originated from Emperor Qianlong's dream. Recorded in Anecdotes of the Summer Palace, after waking from the dream, Emperor Qianlong painted a scroll based on the dream scenery and named it The Dream Within the Painting. This area within the Summer Palace is a garden within a garden, featuring distinctive mountainous characteristics. The pavilion pillars cleverly form the frame of the painting, immersing visitors as if they were inside a landscape painting.
The Dream Landscape at the Summer Palace reopened after renovation this year, featuring pavilions and towers built against the mountains, arranged in a staggered manner. It includes structures such as the Dreaming Within the Painting Tower, Love for the Mountains Pavilion, Borrowing Autumn Tower, and the Wanderlust Corridor. With a broad view, visitors can overlook Kunming Lake and the Western Hills, feeling like they are strolling within a scroll of mountains and rivers. Hence, the name "Dreaming Within the Painting".
Since its reopening, this place has become a popular "must-visit" destination, offering a panoramic view of the picturesque landscapes of the Summer Palace.
