Coastal blue carbon
期刊:Nature Geoscience等
客座编辑:Christopher Cornwall & Nadine Schubert
Ocean ecosystems form a huge active carbon sink and play a critical role in the global carbon cycle and climate. Blue carbon refers to the carbon captured and stored by marine ecosystems, including productive coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, macroalgal forests, seagrass meadows and saltmarshes. Some countries recognise this potential and have included development, conservation and restoration of coastal ecosystems in their climate mitigation strategies. Conversely, human impacts on marine life and habitats can lead to degradation and loss of coastal ecosystem services, including the drawdown and storage of atmospheric carbon.
In this Collection, we invite articles that document the climate mitigation potential of coastal ecosystems and the potential exacerbation of climate change due to their degradation. We also welcome articles that assess relevant policies and that propose new pathways for enhancing coastal ecosystem services.

Digital pathology
期刊:Scientific Reports
客座编辑:Zeeshan Ahmed, Madhusudhanan Balasubramanian, Andrew J & Sandeep Kumar Singhal
Pathological examination of tissue has long been used in the diagnosis of disease. However, recent advances in imaging technologies have allowed for us to digitize pathology, which opens new avenues of exploration. Digital pathology not only increases our ability to analyze pathological slides computationally, including using machine learning, to provide diagnostic and theragnostic data, but it also allows for telepathology, increasing collaboration and improving diagnostic capabilities in low-resource areas where such tasks may have previously been unavailable. This digitization also allows us to gather additional data beyond traditional pathological staining, further improving our understanding of disease.
This Collection welcomes original research into digital pathology, including studies examining technologies for digitizing pathology and machine learning techniques for digitized data.

Tandem Perovskite Photovoltaics
期刊:Nature Communications等
编辑团队请参考特刊主页
Research in perovskite-based tandem photovoltaics has emerged as a promising technology and made tremendous breakthroughs in recent years. While high efficiencies have been achieved in perovskite/silicon tandem devices, the long-term stability of the perovskite active layer remains a major challenge for their commercialisation. It is therefore important to take an interdisciplinary approach to expedite the development and deployment of tandem solar cells based on perovskite materials.
In this collection at Nature Communications, Communications Materials, Communications Physics and Scientific Reports, we aim to bring together cutting-edge perovskite/silicon tandems, all-perovskite tandems, and hybrid perovskite tandems crossing multidisciplinary areas, and invite commentaries from experts.

Epidemiological data
期刊:Scientific Data
客座编辑:Francesco Branda, Amélie Desvars-Larrive & Michele Tizzoni
Epidemiological data collection plays a crucial role in advancing public health research and guiding evidence-based interventions. These datasets serve as foundational resources for studying disease patterns, risk factors, and health outcomes across populations, species, and environments. This Collection presents a series of articles describing epidemiological datasets spanning diverse populations, ecosystems, and disease contexts. Data are presented without hypotheses or significant analyses, and can be derived from population surveys, health registries, electronic health records, field sampling, or other sources. All described datasets are assessed to ensure their open availability (where possible) or secure access controls (where required) via Scientific Data’s editorial and peer review processes.

Fibre lasers
期刊:Scientific Reports
客座编辑:Shuqing Chen, Bülend Ortaç & Giuseppe Quero
Solid-state lasers in which the gain medium is an active optical fibre - usually doped with rare earth elements (e.g. erbium, neodymium, ytterbium, thulium, etc.) - are named fibre lasers. With respect to other type of lasers, such lasers have the advantage to be able to output higher power, to have higher temperature and vibrational stability, and to present longer lifetimes; they also have the benefit of being more compact than other lasers (e.g. gas lasers) of comparable power. Such characteristics, coupled with their reduced cost, make them paramount in industrial and biomedical applications as well as for communications, and have driven the attention of the scientific community.
This Collection gathers original research in the topic of fibre lasers, spanning from the manufacturing and characterisation of a fibre laser system to its exploitation in exciting applications in engineering, biomedical, and natural science.

Radio astronomy has changed how we view the universe, with radio telescopes allowing the retrieval of information beyond visible light by observing radio waves emitted from various astronomical sources. This collection features research highlights and technical developments in radio astronomy on topics such as radio observations of the Sun, planets, fast radio bursts, galactic center, cosmic microwave background, pulsars, active galactic nuclei, as well as instrumentation enabling these observations such as radio telescope architectures, advanced receiver system components, calibration methods, and imaging techniques.

Hydraulic engineering
期刊:Nature Water等

Hydraulic engineering focuses on how water interacts with natural environment (rivers, lakes and ocean) and critical infrastructures such as dams, reservoirs, bridges and piping systems. This field involves the utilization of water for various purposes, such as water supply, irrigation and power generation.
In this cross-journal Collection, we explore the hydraulic problems faced in both fundamental and applied research, with direct relevance for the optimal planning, design and operation of water resource systems. Our collection features articles that cover, for example, hydraulic structures, erosion protection, flood protection, hydroelectric-power generation, and more.

Climate change and mental health
期刊:Communications Psychology等
编辑团队请参考特刊主页
Climate change and the threat it poses to humanity affects mental health through direct and indirect pathways, including climate anxiety and effects of changes in the environment on general health. While the emotional response to the climate crisis may promote collective action to alter the current course, detrimental effects on mental health are a negative consequence that needs to be better understood and suitably addressed.
This curated cross-disciplinary Collection will bring together relevant research from public health, medical, environmental, and psychological perspectives that shed light on the predictors, mechanisms, and knock-on effects of the interaction between climate change and mental health across the globe. Research implementing approaches informed by all the above disciplines to mitigate impact on health also falls in the scope of the Collection. The journals particularly encourage authors whose work represents the Global South perspective to contribute to the call.

Artificial intelligence in genomics
期刊:Communications Biology等
客座编辑:Kaoru Ito
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful platform to streamline the analysis of complex genomic datasets and help researchers explore the genetic basis of important diseases or phenotypes. In a new Call for Papers, Communications Biology, Nature Communications and Scientific Reports are interested in submissions that highlight the possibilities offered by AI approaches to improve genomics research, regardless of the model system.
Original research Articles can report novel methods that involve AI-based algorithms or focus on specific applications of machine or deep learning to identify or prioritise genes and variants associated with a particular trait. Communications Biology and Nature Communications will also consider Reviews, Perspectives, and Comments that are relevant to these topics, though all submissions will be subject to the same peer review process and editorial standards as regular manuscripts considered at the respective journals.
