据福克斯新闻网报道，当地时间1月5日，在位于得克萨斯州的一家餐厅内，一名头戴滑雪面罩的男子闯入，持玩具枪对店内顾客进行抢劫。
Witnesses told police that a man had entered the restaurant wearing a ski mask and gloves, and began pointing what looked like a gun at customers while demanding money.
就在这时，一名顾客突然掏出枪来，对准劫匪连开9枪，并在劫匪倒地后，从他口袋里掏出被抢钱财，还给店内其他顾客，随后离开现场。
Then, police said, one of the customers took out his gun and shot Washington multiple times. After shooting Washington, the customer collected the stolen money from Washington's body and returned it to the other customers before leaving the scene.
据警方确认，抢劫的男子30岁，名叫埃里克·尤金·华盛顿（Eric Eugene Washington）。
事发后，关于此案是否属于正当防卫的争议一直不断。有人认为，顾客在劫匪已经不具备威胁的情况下射击是违法的；还有人认为，顾客有权持枪，有权保护自己的生命财产安全。
得克萨斯州哈里斯县地方检察官办公室发言人在一封电子邮件中表示，此案“有些不寻常”，因此检察官“认为应尽快将其提交给大陪审团，以确定是否有必要提起刑事案件”。
A spokesperson for the Harris County District Attorney's Office said in an email Tuesday that the case "is somewhat unusual," so prosecutors "thought it appropriate to present it to a grand jury as soon as possible to determine whether a criminal case is warranted."
目前，休斯顿警方在社交媒体上发帖寻找开枪顾客，希望他前往警局接受问询。
此外，在上周末举行的一次集会活动中，休斯敦当地社区活动人士奎内尔（Quanell X）呼吁逮捕这名开枪的顾客。
奎内尔认为，尽管许多人将这位顾客誉为英雄，但他的行为超出了自卫的范围。
他表示，顾客第一次开枪是合理的，但是随后的几枪使这个人从一个守法公民变成了一个犯罪分子。
“这个顾客最初开枪并没有错。但是，在我看来，当那个人已经死了，并且不再具有威胁时，他连续开枪是错误的。”
"The man was not wrong for the initial shots," Quanell said. "He was wrong for the continuous shooting when the man was dead, in my opinion, and no longer posing a threat."
对此，开枪顾客的律师辩解称：“在得州，自卫和保护他人以及财产的过程中，开枪射击是正当的。”
福克斯报道称，在得克萨斯州，任何21岁及以上的人在没有执照、背景调查或培训的情况下，在公共场合携带手枪是合法的。根据吉福德预防枪支暴力法律中心数据，美国有30多个州允许人们在没有执照或许可证的情况下公开携带手枪。
In Texas, it is legal for anyone 21 and older to carry a handgun in public without a license, background check or training. According to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, over 30 states in the US allow people to openly carry a handgun without a license or permit.
